Upcycling is all about giving materials and products a new life by reusing them in a different way to their original purpose; these materials would have otherwise been thrown away, which is terrible wasteful. Every item that you recycle has the potential to be a gorgeous gift, as it can be transformed into something creative and unique. Upcycling can make a huge difference to the environment as it prevents materials from being wasted and thrown away by extending their life. It is also a brilliant way to make unique gift, which can be very personal and beautiful. Check out our "Get Creative!" section and become inspired to make your own works of art.
In our upcycling section of our website, we have put a large emphasis on the crafts which involve decorating old jam jars. We have put such an emphasis on them because they have so much potential, yet are still thrown away. On average, each family recycles over 500 glass jars every year. This is an awful lot of wasted potential!
We want to inspire you to use jam jars, instead of buying plant pots, or other commercial products which could easily be replaced with them. We also thought that it would be lovely to inspire you to give elegant personalised gifts, like those in our video.

In Japan, broken objects are repaired, and the cracks are painted gold. The imperfection is highlighted as a piece of history. We should learn by this to be grateful for what we have, and not be so quick to get rid of objects.
Upcycling is so important; you can reduce the amount of consumption of new raw materials, as you can make things that you may have otherwise bought, and are giving life to items which would have otherwise been thrown away. You can make the most of a products life.
